Low Emission Zone Support Grants
This scheme offers an incentive for low-income households to scrap older, less eco friendly vehicles.
£2,000 is available to eligible households disposing of their non-compliant vehicle with a Scottish Authorised Treatment Facility, with additional Travel Better incentives of up to £500 per adult in the household being made available up to a maximum of £1000 per household.
You MUST NOT scrap your vehicle until you have received a grant offer letter from Energy Saving Trust confirming your eligibility, otherwise you will not be eligible for funding.
To qualify for the grant, your household must:
1) Live within 20 Km of the planned Low Emission Zone in Edinburgh
2) Own a Euro 3 or earlier petrol vehicle or a Euro 5 or earlier diesel vehicle
3) Be receiving one or more specific means tested benefits
The Scottish Government is planning to introduce low emission zones in Scotland’s four largest cities: Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
A low emission zone aims to improve air quality by restricting highly polluting road vehicles from entering a specified area.
Drivers of older petrol cars not compliant with Euro 4 emission standards (generally those registered before 2006) or diesel vehicles not compliant with Euro 6 (generally those registered before September 2015) will be fined if they drive within a low emission zone.
